Foreign shoppers warned about travel insurance

Holiday shoppers are being warned to ensure their bargains are covered by their travel insurance policies.

Barclays warned that the thousands of Britons jetting to shopping havens like Paris, New York and Dublin that all their shopping may not be covered by their travel insurance.

The average value of a suitcase skyrockets by £170 when coming back to the UK. And as 46 per cent of women on holidays need an extra bag to bring their holiday shopping back from foreign shores, increasing the risk and value of lost baggage, adequate travel insurance becomes even more important.

"Holidaymakers need to understand that they should have comprehensive and up-to-date travel insurance to cover their pre and post-shopping luggage," commented Barclays Insurance's managing director Adrian Grace.

Men were found to be more likely to buy new electronic gadgets when they were on holiday abroad, with over a third of women saying they stock up on shoes.

Mr Grace also reminded holidaymakers to keep the receipts of their shopping in case they need to make claims from their travel insurance.
