Older people get more travel insurance

Thu, 01 Dec 2005

Holidaymakers older than 65 can now take out yearly travel insurance from Nationwide Building Society.

The society announced that it is re-introducing the travel insurance deal to its range of products, which already includes single trip travel insurance policies for older travellers.

Holidays in the UK and European holidays of up to 31 days are covered by the travel insurance policy.

Up to £10 million benefit in hospital expenses is included by the travel insurance policy, which also offers £25,000 death through personal accident benefit.

It has become increasingly difficult for over-65s to find affordable travel insurance in recent years, says Stuart Bernau, executive director at Nationwide.

People aged 65 and over are an important customer group at Nationwide, Mr Bernau continues, saying he is "delighted" to offer travel insurance that meets their needs.

Adequate travel insurance is "really important", according to Mr Bernau.

"No one expects to fall ill, have an accident or have personal possessions go astray or be stolen but, unfortunately, holidays don't always go as expected."

He says it is therefore essential that all holidaymakers have adequate travel insurance when they go on holiday.
