More older people are embarking on adventurous travels, but a leading travel insurance company is urging them to ensure they have adequate travel insurance in place.
Saga Travel Insurance found that ten per cent of people older than 50 go on adrenaline-fuelled holidays that involve activities like snowboarding, but 39.4 per cent wait until the last minute before they arrange travel insurance.
Many people who leave taking out travel insurance until the last month before they are due to embark on their holidays are being left unprotected, warns the insurance company.
It points out that 35 per cent of travel insurance claims are for unexpected cancellations.
"Today's over-50s are more prepared than ever before to learn a new skill and take on demanding and physically challenging pursuits," says Andrew Goodsell, Saga's group chief executive.
"Our advice to anyone planning a holiday is to ensure that insurance is in place as soon as you have booked your holiday."
Saga Travel Insurance has increased its winter sports travel insurance cover and now includes snowboarding, snow shoeing, snow mobiling, sledging and off-piste skiing.
