Travel insurance not only for flight delays, says insurance company

Wed, 23 Nov 2005

British travellers are being urged once again to ensure they have adequate travel insurance in place before leaving for holidays abroad.

The new warning comes from American Express Travel Insurance, which points out that holidaymakers are risking their financial wellbeing by travelling without travel insurance.

The travel insurance provider points out that even if flights run on time and there is no need to make claims from medical insurance, travellers often still require assistance from their insurance company.

Travel insurance has been used by a policyholder of American Express Travel Insurance to pay for a visit to her ill father.

Monica Manoras was travelling when her father was taken ill and used her travel insurance to cut short her travels and return home to his bedside.

"Monica is a classic example of why travel insurance is so important as it covers you for situations you can never anticipate no matter how well you plan in advance," says Joanne Field of American Express insurance services.
