Mishaps due to clumsy staff and customers are costing businesses across the UK over £300 million a year in business insurance.
The business insurance provider Zurich, which carried out the research, has revealed that over one tenth of businesses suffer from spilt drinks and broken merchandise or equipment as a result of people's flaying limbs.
Not surprisingly, larger firms suffer a lot more, with those employing over 20 people seeing their accident quota doubling compared to smaller companies.
David Nichols, small business manager for Zurich's UK commercial business, has this advice for businesses unsure of how to approach such situations: "If a valuable item is broken then it can be a lot to pay out to replace it if you don't have accidental damage cover."
So the best way to prevent any extra loss of earnings due to people's clumsiness seems to be by taking out accidental damage insurance cover, which is available from a number of insurance providers throughout the UK.
And business owners in Wales better watch out, as firms here have reported the highest number of incidents anywhere in the UK.
