Free guide offers insurance and savings tips

Mon, 26 Sep 2005

Alliance & Leicester has published a guide to help Britons prepare for keeping head above water should they become unable to work.

This follows research that showed that 56 per cent of Britain's workforce would not be able to survive if and accident, illness or unemployment should cause them to be unable to work.

One in five British employees also admitted that they had no insurance to protect them against such misfortune. These people have also not been saving money in order to have savings to fall back on.

Only seven per cent said they would be covered by an income protection insurance policy that would provide them with sufficient income if they had to stop working.

Stephen Leonard, director of mortgage, savings and investment products at Alliance & Leicester, pointed out that most people prefer to think that situations like this will never happen to them.

"But after losing a job suddenly, suffering a bad fall or becoming ill long-term, most of us would struggle to cover the cost of our regular monthly commitments," he said.

"It is imperative that people plan for such eventualities and this guide sets out the options available to protect yourself and your loved ones should disaster strike."

The free guide is available online or at any Alliance & Leicester branch.
