Britons wasting millions by not switching home insurance, study shows

Mon, 07 Aug 2006

UK residents are wasting £144.5 million every month by not switching their home insurance provider, according to research.

Britons are overpaying their home insurance by £1.7 billion a year, which equates to £112.95 per month, according to the study conducted by Barclays.

The company states that although switching has become popular with energy providers and credit card companies, fewer UK residents are willing to change their home insurance provider.

Mark Till, marketing director at Barclays insurance, comments: "It is amazing to see that people are unaware how easily they can switch their home insurance to a better deal.

"And more importantly that it is not just an option when it is time for their annual renewal quote.

"We actively encourage people to shop around to find the best deal to ensure they get the best value home insurance." Meanwhile, recent research from Halifax indicated that millions of UK residents could be putting themselves at risk by leaving doors unlocked, which could invalidate their home insurance policy and covering the cost of lost goods themselves.
