Britons planning to travel abroad for Christmas have been urged to ensure that they have adequate travel insurance to deal with any problems.
Sainsbury's Bank has issued the warning, after revealing research which found that 11.9 per cent of UK residents are planning to spend Christmas overseas this year.
Spain, France and Italy have been named as the three most popular destinations for Britons taking a trip abroad.
The organisation stated that 457,000 people could be planning on taking a trip overseas without travel insurance, representing eight per cent of the total number heading away over the festive season.
Robert O'May, travel insurance manager at Sainsbury's Bank, commented: "Taking a break at Christmas is a perfect way to escape the cold British climate, or leave behind the stresses and strains of a busy 2006 with a winter sports break.
"Whatever your plans this Christmas, if you are travelling overseas, ensure you have adequate travel insurance in place should you encounter any problems."
Direct Line recently warned that many Britons could be putting themselves at risk without adequate travel insurance cover for their existing medical complaints.
