Pet insurance company launches extra cover

Wed, 18 Jan 2006

The country's second largest pet insurance company has launched a new insurance policy to give extra cover for dogs and cats.

Tesco Pet Insurance Extra is a new pet insurance policy designed to give pet owners "extra peace of mind" if their dog or cat needs to undergo treatment that will last longer than a year.

In such a case, vet bills of up to £4,000 will be covered by the Tesco pet insurance policy for an unlimited period.

The launch of this pet insurance policy comes after Tesco Pet Insurance questioned vets and customers about what they want from a pet insurance policy, says the head of Tesco Pet Insurance, Allan Burns.

A poll of veterinary nurses recently showed that 96 per cent of them do not believe that expensive pet insurance is always the best option for pet owners, according to the insurance company.

Mr Burns continues to say that the insurance company believes this pet insurance deal offers "the right level of cover at the right price".

"Many top-level policies offer vast and in some cases unlimited amounts of cover," he says.

However, Tesco Pet Insurance statistics show that in most cases, £4,000 is "more than adequate" to treat long-term conditions, according to Mr Burns.
