Winter sports enthusiasts are being urged to ensure they have not only cheap travel insurance, but travel insurance that is comprehensive.
Price comparison website Insuresupermarket points out that with thousands of Britons heading for foreign slopes this winter, it remains important that they shop around for the best travel insurance deal.
Skiers and snowboarders are advised to consider travel insurance that covers them at least for piste and avalanche closures and against lost or damaged ski equipment.
Travel insurance should also cover inability to ski due to accident, illness or the loss of a ski pass, as well as cover against cancellation.
"Don't assume that all travel policies are the same, or that they will cover you for everything that might go wrong," warns the website's director Richard Mason.
He adds that for off-piste skiers or those trying sports like snowboarding it is even more important to check travel insurance policies carefully.
Insuresupermarket's winter sports best buy table puts FlexiCover Direct's supreme cover insurance product at the top.
At a premium of £16.34, the insurance company offers cover which includes £5 million of medical expenses and £10,000 for personal accident for 17 days.
"As our best buy table shows, the majority of best value winter sports cover isn't available via the high street travel agent or with any of the big, well-known names," Mr Mason points out.
"By going online you can save yourself a packet whilst also knowing you're buying a comprehensive policy."
