Brits urged to shop around for travel insurance

UK holidaymakers should be more careful when selecting a travel insurance policy, an expert has claimed.

Travellers could run the risk of being underinsured or having their claims rejected, warned James Harrison, chief executive of insurancewide.com.

A number of UK residents are looking for the cheapest travel insurance policy, which may not offer an appropriate level of cover, Mr Harrison claimed.

Additionally, the expert asserted that this is particularly relevant for holidaymakers heading for a winter sports holiday, as a number of expenses such as medical bills, loss of ski equipment and piste closure could occur.

"What's more, people still do not realise that travel agents often charge well over the odds for a standard policy that contains little relevance to the individual holidaymaker's needs," he remarked.

"Savvy travellers will take a few minutes online to compare who offers what across the market before making a choice."

Post Office recently claimed that one in three travel insurance claims for winter sports holidays are for medical bills and urged travellers to stay safe on the slopes.
