Health insurance customers have been put on alert after Boots announced a new partnership aimed at bringing medical insurance cover to the masses.
The UK's largest chemist chain is working alongside health insurance provider PruHealth to offer a new medical insurance package that includes access to more than 13,000 consultants nationwide.
Moreover, policyholders will be given the opportunity to use any NHS private patient unit and private hospital in the UK, in addition to 24-hour access to a doctor callout service.
Commenting on the linkup, Kevin Johnson, head of Boots insurance services, said: "It is a great opportunity for us to use our position on the high street to offer the public greater access to private healthcare."
It was a sentiment echoed by Shaun Matisonn, chief executive at PruHealth, who explained: "We aim to make private health insurance more accessible and affordable."
Boots was founded in Nottingham and is now part of the Alliance Boots company, which has recently been the subject of takeover speculation from various private equity firms.
