A health insurance provider has warned that choosing policies on the grounds of which offer the best no-claims insurance discounts could backfire in the long-run.
In recent months, a number of health insurance policies have been introduced to the market promising premium reductions of up to 50 per cent if the policyholder avoids making a claim.
However, Bupa Health Insurance argues that this could cost some people "dearly" in terms of both financial and medical wellbeing.
"Encouraging people to wait rather than sort out a health problem could become a major cost issue - and, more importantly, a life threatening one," it argued.
"Managing your health is about seeking early diagnosis."
Earlier this week, Bupa unveiled details of a new health clinic in south-east England.
The facility, based in Enfield, does not have any mirrors on the wall and utilises flattering lighting techniques to minimise the risk of users feeling self-conscious.
As a joint project between the medical insurance company and health club brand David Lloyd Leisure, it is designed to be used by people on a mission to lose weight or recover from the debilitating effects of a serious illness.
