Homeowners ought to consider reviewing their home insurance to ensure they are adequately covered during the Christmas period, one expert has advised.
Andrew Lowe, head of home insurance at Direct Line, said that it is important for people to be vigilant at this time of year and to consider the extent of their home contents insurance cover .
Mr Lowe said: "Expensive items such as those over £1,500 in value, for example jewellery, may need to be specified separately on your policy - it is a good idea to check with your insurer ."
Students should also be wary, as their accommodation may be targeted by thieves during this time of year, he added.
Recent research conducted by LV= discovered that 68 per cent of households in the UK leave their TVs, PCs, jewellery or antiques on display.
Meanwhile, the firm noted that 250,000 households estimated the value of their possessions visible from outside of their home to be worth more than £35,000.
