Motorists 'get in touch with their cars'

Fri, 14 Dec 2007

A new survey has revealed that a number of motorists admit to giving their cars names and talking to their vehicles .

Research by What Car? found that a third of people questioned said they have given their car a name, while 60 per cent said that they often talk to them.

Commenting on the findings, research psychologist at London Metropolitan University Christina Gaitanou, said that talking to a vehicle shows that some people have a relationship with their car.

"This behaviour shows how people can become attached to objects that they possess," she remarked.

In related news, car insurance provider Admiral found that households with more than one car are less likely to be involved in an accident than those with a single car.

The company analysed over 200,000 accidents and found that multi-car households are 22 per cent less likely to be involved in a crash .
