Motorists urged to take precautions

Tue, 18 Dec 2007

Motorists ought to ensure that their vehicles are ready for winter driving, one expert has claimed.

Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at eth British Insurance Brokers' Association, said that darkness and wet and icy roads "all lead to claims ".

Motorists need to make sure that their cars are "ready for the winter" by carrying anti-freeze and ensuring that tyres are the "correct legal depth", Mr Trudgill said.

"It's the sensible precautions at this time of year - make sure you're ready, make sure your car's ready so if something does happen then you'll be prepared," he explained.

Drivers should also take their car insurance details with them, along with their break-down cover information, Mr Trudgill advised.

According to the AA, Friday December 21st is likely to be the busiest day to travel during the festive period.

Roads across the UK are expected to become congested from 11:30 GMT, the firm stated.
