Britons planning to lavish gifts on their animals, pet insurance study suggests

Mon, 12 Feb 2007

Banking customers planning to splash out on their pets this week have been reassured that they will not be the only ones following the results of a new financing survey.

According to research from pet insurance broker swiftcover.com, some 12 per cent of people who own pets plan to give a Valentine's Day present to their favourite animal.

And nine per cent of dogs and cats with female owners may also be in line for a Valentine's Day card, according to the insurance company's findings.

Meanwhile, it has been indicated that 34 per cent of people would rather cuddle up to their pets than to their partner during the day of romance.

Tina Shortle, marketing director at the pet insurance broker, said that the results show how much Britons care about their domestic animals.

"Brits are well known for being animal lovers but preferring to spend time cuddled up with the dog or cat over a partner reveals man's best friend is the primary object of many people's affections," she said.

Owners who are concerned about the wellbeing of their pets may wish to consider arranging pet insurance cover.

This can provide financing support in the event that the dog or cat requires costly medical attention.
