The Post Office has urged holidaymakers to check the small print of their travel insurance policies before jetting off for a weekend on the slopes.
Skiiers that are planning to spend some time on the pistes may look to make an insurance claim on their travel insurance policy if the resort is closed due to insufficient snowfall.
However, the national postal service has pointed out that a number of cheap travel insurance deals will not pay out unless the piste has been closed for either 12 or 24 hours, which could be a problem for people on short-term breaks.
Moreover, it has been highlighted that many travel insurance companies require holidaymakers to obtain written confirmation from a senior member of staff about the resort's closure before they will respond.
As a result, Kevin McAdam, head of travel at the Post Office, suggests that people look more closely at the terms of their travel insurance deal before heading off.
"This ski season has been among the worst on record," he said.
"Our advice is to make sure you know exactly what your cover offers before you go and, importantly, what evidence you need to have before you come home."
Typically, holidaymakers who are looking for protection can choose between single trip insurance or extended-term deals such as annual travel insurance cover.
