The benefits of a new business insurance product that targets late-night entertainment venues has been questioned by an industry representative.
This week, the British Insurance Brokers' Association unveiled details of a new insurance product entitled ClubPM, which aims to cover the changing circumstances caused by the implementation of the Licensing Act 2003.
Available to brokers and clients of the insurance association, it includes discounted rates and the opportunity for extended-term insurance protection.
However, Jon Collins, senior consultant at the Bar Entertainment and Dance Association, has suggested that the business insurance policy may not represent cost-effective cover.
"Normally, the type o f thing you would do that would mean you lost your license would invalidate your insurance," he explained.
"There is a great deal of scepticism in the industry that this sort of policy is actually value for money."
A variety of entertainment venues could potentially be interested in the new insurance product if it is deemed cost-effective.
For instance, comedy clubs, bars, nightclubs, theatres and cinemas may all qualify for cover if they have links to the British Insurance Brokers' Association.
The new licensing laws came into effect in November 2005.
