Check car insurance covers flood damage, warns website

Mon, 30 Jul 2007

Drivers should check their car insurance to check they are covered for flood damage to their vehicles, a price comparison website has warned.

Gocompare.com has estimated that 28.1 per cent of drivers in the UK may not be covered under their car insurance policies if their vehicle is subject to flood damage.

Managing director of Gocompare.com Hayley Parsons commented that many drivers take out third party or third party, fire and theft insurance: "There is nothing wrong with purchasing these policies, but it is essential in times such as these that drivers know exactly what is and isn't included in their policy cover."

Drivers with fully comprehensive car insurance policies will be covered for flood damage, Ms Parsons adds.

The company is advising drivers to avoid driving through flood waters or start a car if it is submerged in water to evade lasting damage to the vehicle.

Car owners have also been advised today to keep a photocopy of their car insurance policies in their vehicle by Insurancewide.com. By doing so, the website claims drivers can escape unnecessary fines or vehicle confiscation.
