Passengers urged to take out travel insurance

Thu, 26 Jul 2007

Passengers flying out of Britain this summer to sunnier climes have been urged to make sure they take out travel insurance.

Halifax Travel Insurance is offering advice to holidaymakers as heightened security at UK airports due to recent terror threats could cause passengers long delays.

A spokesman for Halfax Travel Insurance warned that when travelling by air passengers should prepare for every eventuality.

"To cover all eventualities, we urge that people do not travel without insurance cover. Halifax Travel Insurance comprehensively covers you from the moment you take out cover until you step back into your home after your holiday," he commented.

Long delays can be frustrating and spoil the start of a "much anticipated holiday", he added.

The organisation has advised passengers to eat little and often to keep energy levels up as well as avoiding tea, coffee and alcohol and drinking lots of water to remain hydrated.

Consumers were warned last week that they should also check their home insurance policies. Accidental damage claims rise considerably in the summer holidays, according to Halifax Home Insurance, as energetic children run riot in family homes.
