Technology-loving Britons cannot get enough gossip while on holiday and are taking expensive devices with them to keep up with the latest happenings, according to a new travel insurance study.
In a survey by online travel insurance provider swiftcover.com, it has been revealed that 47 per cent of British holidaymakers spend an hour a week or more talking on their mobile while overseas.
And it appears that getting the latest social goings-on back home is one of the main reasons for this, with 40 per cent of the survey's respondents admitting they take a mobile or Blackberry to keep up to date with friends and family members.
Moreover, mobile phones have emerged as the most popular gadget to take abroad (88 per cent), followed by an mp3 player (43 per cent) - although expensive items may not be covered for damage without a comprehensive travel insurance policy.
"Millions of Brits are now taking hundreds of pounds worth of technology on holiday with them in a move away from the traditional 'relax and unwind' holiday activities," affirmed Craig Staniland, director of underwriting at the travel insurance provider.
Earlier this month, Joanne Field, marketing manager at financial services specialist American Express Insurance Services, warned holidaymakers that a low total valuables limit on some travel insurance policies could leave them short of cover if expensive items are stolen.
