Prospective travel insurance customers have been given some tips on what to watch out for when arranging insurance cover.
According to financing portal Find.co.uk, many holidaymakers do not realise that those who possess away from home cover as part of their home contents insurance package may be able to get a premium discount if they mention it to a travel insurance broker.
Additionally, would-be travel insurance customers have been told to be wary that some policies limit payouts on individual items to £300, potentially meaning that high-value products such as digital cameras and laptops may not be fully insured.
Summarising the financing website's message, Kate Marsden, marketing director of Find.co.uk, has stressed that travellers should look to take out travel insurance that precisely fits their needs.
"Travel policies vary dramatically so it is essential that you buy appropriate insurance, which matches the value of your belongings, the cost of your holiday and the type of activity you will be engaging in," she said.
Earlier this month, travel insurance provider swiftcover.com conducted a survey into how common it is for holidaymakers to lose their luggage.
In its survey, 22 per cent of respondents admitted they had experienced problems when their suitcase failed to emerge on the baggage carousels.
