Following the latest flood warnings issued in certain parts of the UK, home insurance firm Cornhill Direct has offered advice to households that may be affected.
To ensure that they are adequately prepared, people should have sandbags to block doorways, move belongings up to higher levels and make sure that insurance documents are kept in a safe place, the firm said.
Additionally, people ought to prepare a "flood pack" containing a torch , first aid kit , warm clothes, blankets and water.
Those households affected by flooding were advised to contact their home insurance provider as soon as they are able to after their property has been damaged.
"Householders should follow our advice which will help to minimise the damage of a flood and help those affected to recover as soon as possible," commented Mark Bishop, spokesman for Cornhill Direct.
Meanwhile, David Rochester of Halifax home Insurance also urged people to take steps to minimise the damage to their properties caused by flooding, following warnings on the east coast of England.
