Car insurance firm Admiral has reported that households with more than one vehicle are less likely to be involved in accidents than those with a single car.
Analysing data from 200,000 accident claims , the firm noted that households with two or more cars were 22 per cent less likely to be involved in an accident than those with fewer cars.
Sue Longthorn, managing director of Admiral, said: "Approximately seven million households in the UK now have two or more cars and according to our research they are the safest drivers on our roads."
This trend could be attributed to the fact that multiple car owners tend to drive more expensive vehicles and so "perhaps they drive more cautiously", she added.
In related news, car insurance provider esure recently claimed that the number of claims rose by 130,000 in November 2006, compared with the previous month.
The firm suggested that darker evenings and changing weather can affect driving conditions at this time of year.
