Britons look to make improvements to their homes every five years, data from a home insurance company has found.
According to figures from Saga, the home insurance company, Britons predict that their improvements will hold out for fewer than five years, with bedrooms and bathrooms refurbished more often than most.
And the company also warned that people could risk being under-covered on their home insurance policies if they make such changes without letting their insurer know.
Home insurance providers must be kept abreast of any significant alterations, the company asserted.
The home insurance expert said: "Amidst all this ripping out and refurbing, Saga is reminding homeowners to let their insurance company know before they embark on any major work."
Other findings from the home insurance company include that one in three people have made improvements for purely cosmetic reasons rather than any actual need for them to be done, while Scotland's homeowners prefer to remodel their kitchens .
Moneysupermarket.com recently urged the government to make good on promises to improve flood defences or risk offering cold comfort to "those people who saw their possessions floating down the road earlier this year".
