A number of home insurance customers in the UK fear to leave the house over the bleak British winter months for fear of burglary, it has been claimed.
Figures from home insurance provider and high street bank Abbey showed that many homeowners are afraid that the darker days and nights will provide the perfect cover for opportunistic crooks to make off with their belongings.
Some 47 per cent of respondents to a study from the home insurance provider said they prefer not to leave home during the season's evenings, while a similar proportion are in favour of scrapping the system of clocks going back and forward.
Burglary is something that can be emotionally distressing, but also financially so, with the prospect of replacing lost goods if they do not have adequate home insurance cover in place.
Prasad Shastri, Head of Insurance Marketing at Abbey, commented: "You should check to make sure that you are covered on your home insurance and that your policy covers you for all your possessions in the event you get burgled."
