British holidaymakers going on trips with a large number of high-value items need to ensure that the items are covered by their insurance policy before they leave, an industry expert has warned.
Malcolm Tarling, a spokesperson from the Association of British Insurers (ABI), said passengers may find that they need to insure valuable items individually as many policies will place a limit on the size of a claim .
He explained: "Your travel insurance policy is only going to cover you for a limited amount, it's a question of checking your policy and checking if you have cover for items outside of the home under your household policy."
He also pointed out that passengers should make a note of whats in their bag when they pack it and if possible keep any receipts on order to make it easier to claim on their insurance if their luggage is lost by an airline .
