Less cars on the road due to rising car insurance premiums

Tue, 29 Apr 2008

A new report claims that rising insurance costs are deterring some drivers from using their cars .

According to research from MoneyExpert.com, 25 per cent of drivers said that they were using their car less due to rising costs. The report also revealed that 76 per cent of motorists said that the recent increase in petrol prices had put them off from driving and one in ten (eight per cent) mentioned rises in car insurance premiums.

The average cost of a car insurance premium in Britain is now as high as £629.04, said the site. MoneyExpert.com's Sean Gardner commented: "Many people are finding their finances are being squeezed to the limit. Petrol costs are high but the single biggest outlay a driver has to account for is their insurance premium."

As it's illegal to drive without insurance, Mr Gardner suggests that the only way to minimise the damage is to "shop 'til you drop" and get the best possible car insurance deal you can find.
