Tenants' contents scheme launched by Zurich Home Insurance

Fri, 04 Apr 2008

A new product from Zurich will attempt to address the financial exclusion faced by housing association tenants by providing them with insurance cover .

The new tenants’ contents scheme will be offered to local authorities and housing associations throughout Britain.

Zurich are hoping the product will help tenants take-up contents insurance . With many tenants finding it hard to meet monthly or annual premiums the cover from Zurich will help them buy appropriate cover, as the premiums will be calculated based on the number of bedrooms in a property, with a weekly cash payment option available.

Tom Shewry, Zurich Municipal head of housing, said: "Financial concerns and the fact that insurance products are often seen as complicated and difficult to understand are reflected in poor adoption of these schemes."

Landlords usually only insure buildings . With the new product, tenants will not be required to calculate an overall value for their home contents and therefore ensure that they are not underinsured.
