The AA is urging motorists who are driving to visit family and friends this Christmas to take care because of the wintry weather .
Figures from the AA have revealed that as a result of the credit crunch, the roads may be quieter than usual over the festive period however, wet and wintry conditions may still make driving dangerous.
Andy Taylor, AA Patrol of the Year 2008, said: " Punctures increase over the winter months when the roads are wet, as water and grime lubricate foreign objects making it easier for them to penetrate the tyres . Ensure that you pack essentials for an emergency ."
Confused.com, the price comparison website, recently issued a warning to drivers to leave plenty of time for travelling over Christmas as wet conditions could end up costing more than time in the event of an accident . The website said that apart from the potential danger to motorists' lives, accidents could also cause insurance premiums to rise.
