Christmas will see an increase in insurance claims

Wed, 17 Dec 2008

The number of home insurance claims is set to rise over Christmas this year, according to a survey by Axa .

The research revealed that 17 per cent of Brits have more accidents than usual around the home at this time of year and the insurance company has assembled a check list of precautions in order to avoid the unwanted hassle of dealing with insurance claims over the festive period.

The insurer said that 37 per cent of Brits do not secure their homes properly at Christmas time and have warned people to keep presents out of sight, after its survey found that 41 per cent leave them lying out where they could be seen by potential burglars . Axa's Nel Mooy said: "The consequences can be costly or worse still, involve spending some of your precious holiday dealing with your insurance company."

Recently, Norwich Union Insurance said that the festive season is usually a busy time for burglars and warned customers to take extra care over Christmas and New Year.
