Post Office increases home insurance cover by 10 per cent over Christmas

Wed, 10 Dec 2008

Post Office home insurance will be increasing its cover over the festive period to protect Christmas presents that usually add value to contents.

The cover extension will be automatic throughout December and will not cost any extra. Head of home insurance at the Post Office, Emma Baunach, said: "At this time of year people often have more valuables in their homes than usual. Over Christmas you don't want to be worrying about whether or not you have enough cover on your home insurance, so we have made the extra cover automatic to make sure you are protected."

Recently, moneysupermarket.com urged Brits to look at their home insurance cover to make sure it will include Christmas gifts . Research from the comparison website revealed that 'top up' periods can vary on home insurance, and some insurers do not automatically increase cover at all.

Andy Leadbetter, managing director of insurance at moneysupermarket.com commented that Christmas is a prime time for opportunistic thieves to strike as there are plenty of expensive gifts and gadgets in the house.
