Wed, 27 Feb 2008

Those with home insurance policies should make sure that they know how much the contents of their home is worth or risk being "grossly under-insured", it has been claimed.

Andrew Hagger of Moneyfact.co.uk explained that many people purchase new, expensive electrical items but then fail to recalculate the level of their home insurance .

He said: "So why not shop around for a better deal for your home insurance . Check that your contents cover is sufficient to include all your contents, including that shiny new plasma TV whilst you're at it."

Mr Hagger added that there are several ways people can reduce their home insurance premiums . These include increasing the voluntary excess on a policy and installing devices such as burglar alarms .

Last week Alison Palmer of Norwich Union warned that many people fail to take out home insurance for their contents as they do not think they will ever have to make a claim .
