Bupa Travel Insurance is taking travel insurance to another level by offering insurance coverage for space travel . The firm, which provides cover for particular areas such as gap year travel and skiing, is now examining the space tourist market as its next specific area of insurance.
Richard Branson is already planning to make flights into space as early as next year, which means there is a chance it could become a reality. Nick Potter, head of Bupa travel, said: "We provide insurance cover to people in 190 countries so it wouldnt be a giant leap to add outer space to that list."
He added that space tourism could become a real market for the next generation of travellers, especially as Russian cosmonauts have already taken tourists up into space.
Recently, Bupa Travel launched a new mature gap year sabbatical product for people aged between 36-45, who are intending to take a break.
