Paymentshield has improved its insurance for landlords and their buildings and contents to include new areas of cover and broaden the conditions for eligibility.
The new insurance will cover accidental damage to locks or key theft, damage to gardens caused by emergency services, loss of metered water in the case of building damage, unauthorised use of utilities and the landlord's belongings in communal areas. Students, Benefits Agency recipients and multiple occupancy of up to six tenants per property will now also be eligible for cover.
Neil Galjaard, Paymentshield insurance director, commented that the company believes the buy-to-let marketplace will continue to grow. Despite the current economic climate, estate agents are advising landlords and tenants to keep up their insurance, as maintenance of a property could save money in the long-term. Landlords often dont realise that they need contents insurance for unfurnished properties to ensure that their carpets and curtains are covered.
Some tenants are also under the impression that their belongings are insured by the landlord's policy, which is not possible under British law .
