RIAS cuts one third off home contents insurance deal

RIAS, the insurance specialist for the over 50s, has launched an offer which will give customers a third off standard home contents insurance premiums.

The offer is available from July 1st until September 30th and new customers will get 33.3 per cent off their standard contents premium for the first year of the policy, provided they take out a joint buildings and contents policy . The discount will also apply to quotes for combined cover within the given period.

Older people may still suffer financially when buying insurance, say insurers, even with the government’s new Equality Bill. The Guardian newspaper has predicted that prices for travel insurance will stay higher for older people, though providers will have to do more to justify their actions and put an end to blanket restrictions. The paper also says customers should be aware that travel insurance providers specialising for the over-50s, do not always offer the cheapest deals.
