RIAS warns against driving without car insurance

Thu, 17 Jul 2008

Motorists are being warned about the dangers of driving without cover by insurance provider RIAS .

According to figures released by the Motor Insurers Bureau and cited by the firm, driving without insurance, as well as being illegal, costs law-abiding car owners over £500million a year. It is also suggested that this adds an average of £30 extra on top of drivers’ premiums.

Additionally, more than 150,000 cars were seized by the police last year for not having any insurance, which works out to one one vehicle being picked up every three minutes. Janet Connor, RIAS managing director, said: "If you are worried about the cost of insurance, it is worth talking to your insurance provider to check whether there are any savings to be made."

Recently, research conducted by Admiral found that a family of two parents in their 50’s and a daughter in her 20s could be carrying items in their car worth £2,800.
