Parents are being urged to ensure they have adequate home and contents insurance this coming school holiday, as a new study from Sheilas Wheels home insurance found that children cause £0.5billion worth of damage to electronic gadgets in British homes .
According to the study, 25 per cent of children have caused damage to, or broken a piece of electrical equipment in the home. As a consequence, parents are spending an an estimated £553million each year to repair or replace the items.
The research also revealed that the average child causes about £183 worth of damage to items such as laptops and digital cameras and that one in five parents have claimed on their home insurance for the damage their children have caused.
Jacky Brown, spokesperson for Sheilas' Wheels home insurance, said: " School holidays are a prime time for breakages as bored kids can wreak havoc at home, potentially causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage."
