Van drivers have been voted the safest motorists on Britains roads, according to a new study from Tesco .
The research examined insurance claims and found that fewer insurance claims are made on van insurance than on other kinds of policies. The study also found that one in five people who use vans have had extra training sessions in their vehicles so that they will become more capable drivers .
Allan Burns, spokesperson for the firm, said that the traditional view of van drivers is not always accurate. He commented that although van drivers are usually typecast as rogues of the road, their records actually suggest they are very safe and that they deserve a better insurance rate.
Recently, women van drivers were found to be safer than male van drivers and therefore have cheaper premiums than men .
To encourage health and safety while driving behind the wheel, Direct Line for Business is urging van drivers not to smoke while driving .
