Most vans on the road are used for business purposes and insurers are urging van drivers to make sure they are properly covered, or they could put their business at risk. Specific business insurance is available for vehicles used for business purposes and can sometimes be cheaper.
Direct Line for Business has examined van ownership and van insurance and found that many van owners are not aware that the smoking ban applies to their work vehicle . By smoking in their vans, drivers could face fines of up to £2500 while also decreasing the value of their van and putting other road users in danger.
Research has revealed that vehicles that have been smoked in and have signs of this, such as a lingering smell, burns or nicotine stains, drop in value considerably when they are up for resale.
Kate Syred, Head of Direct Line for Business, says, "Business owners purchasing second hand vans are as demanding as those buying for personal use. Presentation can be key to protecting an asset such as a van ."
