Accidents in the home cost people in Britain over £1 billion every year and highlight the importance of comprehensive insurance, says a new study.
Research carried out by Tescocompare.com revealed that over five million accidents occur in UK homes every year. The most typical accidents are those which involve damaging carpets, curtains and furniture through spillages and the average cost of damage to the home as a result of these accidents is £267.
"As the saying goes accidents do happen and this research suggests many of us suffer financial loses on an annual basis," commented Paul Baxter of Tescocompare.com. He added that insurance can be taken out against accidental damage.
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) recently announced that it will be launching a new campaign to give people in the north-east wider access to home contents insurance . James King, the ABIs assistant director of markets and regulation, explained that buying insurance is not always a priority for people on low incomes, but insurance can often be most beneficial to those who are more vulnerable.
