Motorcyclists can reduce their insurance premiums by taking an additional motorcycle course says an industry expert. The courses will also increase personal safety
Motorbikes are generally renowned for being dangerous and are disproportionately involved in fatal and serious injury crashes compared to cars and pedal cyclists . Ian Crowder, public relations manager at AA Insurance said that his organisation had seen a rise in the number of accidents involving motorbikes over the past few years. However, he insisted that further training would increase personal safety as well as lower insurance premiums.
Premiums are calculated according to age, postcode, the type of vehicle and a drivers experience. Some local councils provide free courses for younger motorcyclists and various motorcycle organisations offer advanced training.
Mr Crowder noted: "A bit of caution about the dangers of motorcycling is no bad thing because it enhances your awareness on the road and it will help you to be a little more alert to the fact that you might not be seen immediately by other vehicles."
