British holidaymakers are being urged to check their home insurance policies before they leave for their summer holidays, says Confused.com.
In order to avoid pushing up premiums, the comparison service recommends that people going to festivals this summer remain vigilant and make certain that they keep their belongings safe.
Expensive items that are taken away from home will be covered by most insurance policies, up to a certain value. However, if the items are stolen as a result of not being secured, the insurance will be invalidated.
Thieves can take advantage of unguarded tents and items such as jewellery, cameras, mobile phones and mp3 players can easily be stolen. Simon Lamble, Confused.com product director, commented: "Using facilities on offer such as lockers, or making sure you keep belongings on you or in a safe place, is highly recommended in order that your festival does not become a washout."
