Direct Line urges pet owners to buy insurance

With vet fees on the increase, Direct Line Pet Insurance is warning pet owners to make sure they have taken out insurance for their cat or dog .

According to research from the insurer, 11 per cent of people are not up-to-date with vaccinations for their pets, even though they can prevent many common illnesses such as canine flu .

Cost is a problem for many, with dog owners alone facing a cost of £1.5 billion on vet fees annually. These costs would be covered by pet insurance, but 62 per cent of dog owners revealed to not having taken out insurance for their animal .

Chris Price, head of Direct Line Pet Insurance, commented: "Regular vaccinations can play a major role in disease prevention in dogs and cats and help to ensure that they remain in the best of health ."

He added that to help pet owners cover the cost of their animal's jabs, new customers will receive £20 towards immunising their pets.
