According to figures from Zurich Insurance, in the last three years more than ten million British drivers have been a victim of road rage .
One in three drivers have been cut up or tailgated by an angry motorist, or faced verbal or physical threats and abuse, revealed research carried out by the company. One in seven have been followed by another driver and one in ten have been confronted or threatened by a motorist who has pulled over or got out of their car .
The company also found that aggressive behaviour on the road peaked in the evening rush hour, when people are travelling home from work .
Driving dangerously not puts lives at risk, but also leads to higher car insurance premiums, if there is an accident . "A stressed driver is more likely to be a dangerous driver, so we urge all motorists to take precautions if they feel the red mist descending," said Zurich's Mike Quinton.
A survey from Direct Line has shown that many drivers feel in danger when sharing the motorway with lorries . Around 18 per cent said they felt anxious overtaking a lorry, while 39 per cent felt intimidated driving past an HGV .
