Car insurer warns of rise in gadget theft from cars

Thu, 01 May 2008

British motorists who leave gadgets in their cars are an easy target for thieves says online car insurer, swiftcover.com.

According to a recent survey, despite the well-documented risks, 96 per cent of UK drivers regularly leave gadgets in their cars and one in three leave them in full view on the seat or dashboard. This has led to over a fifth (21%) of drivers having had their cars broken into and their gadgets stolen.

Siwftcover.com have recently launched a new insurance cover which gives drivers the choice to cover their in-car gadgets when they buy car insurance . Tina Shortle, marketing director of swiftcover.com, says: " Sat navs, MP3 players, mobile phones and digital cameras are a thief’s dream. They are easy to snatch, easy to conceal and because they are desirable items, easy to sell on."

Most insurers which cover gadgets require proof of purchase before insuring and item. However, swiftcover.com will cover an unlimited number of gadgets and customers will only require proof of purchase when making a claim .
