A significant percentage of Britain’s working population is overweight, eats badly and suffers from high levels of stress, all factors which can increase the cost of health insurance premiums, says health insurer Bupa .
According to recent research, of those surveyed in the UK's ten biggest cities, over 40 per cent said they were overweight and only one third engaged in moderate exercise, such as walking, every day.
The survey also revealed that many of the respondents didn't eat properly and there was an increase in stress levels, with two fifths of people saying they worried about the credit crunch .
Bupa stressed that employers must play a role in keeping their work force healthy and choosing the right insurers . Dr Rebecca Small, assistant medical director at Bupa, said: "Choosing the right provider, who can offer a broad range of health at work services and the expertise to tailor these services to a company's needs, is critical."
