A bill could be passed in America that would see insurers treating mental illness and mental health insurance claims in the same way that claims are treated which are based on physical injuries . Senator Pete Domenici, who suffers from a progressive form of dementia, has been spurred on by his own experience in his efforts to get the law changed.
Presently, insurers can cap the amount of visits that claimants make to the doctor . Under the new changes, individuals with mental illnesses will be treated equally. Domenici hopes to finish his seventh term on a positive note as his current illness is forcing him out of politics . His daughter also suffers from a mental illness.
Even though attitudes in the USA regarding mental health have changed over time, treatment and insurance are still expensive. There are many families who face serious financial problems when trying to support a family and provide the specialist care that a mentally ill person may require.
