British homeowners are increasingly considering extending, or even upgrading their home to make room for members of their extended family, says Halifax Home Insurance .
According to the new study, one in four people surveyed would willingly invest in a larger property . The respondents also said that they would readily build an extension within the property in order to accommodate extended members of their family.
The study reveals that in the future, many Brits would be prepared to share their home with family relatives and 30 per cent of the 2,000 people surveyed said that it would make sense financially . David Rochester, head of underwriting at Halifax Home Insurance, said: "The current economic and social climate in Britain is showing a shift towards several generations living together under one roof."
Mr Rochester added that changing financial pressures were making people move towards multi-generation households, something that was not unusual in the past.
